Detritus of Consumers, focuses on everyday waste. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American creates four and a half pounds of waste per day. Plastic bags are one of the largest contributors to this situation. These overlooked items eventually become artifacts which take up to twenty years to decompose. These bags become the artifacts of the Anthropocene; they carry our legacy with them.

The term throw-away society, coined in 1955, illustrates the prevalence of consumerism and production of disposable goods. These single-use objects are over-produced and we are over-reliant on these goods. My personal work as a grocery bagger for years contributed to this issue. One of my actions for making amends for my contribution to this issue is creating monotypes using single-use items as a way to further their purposes.
